2 Rohingyas killed in gunfight with cops in Ukhiya

Two Rohingya men were killed and several others sustained bullet injuries in a gunfight with police members at a Rohingya refugee camp in Ukhiya upazila of Cox’s Bazar on Friday.

The incident happened around 10:00pm at the Camp-8 East B block.

Ukhiya Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sheikh Mohammad Ali said that some 40-50 Rohingya men, possessing arms, came to attack Md Rafique of the Camp-8 East B block.

On information, a patrol team of APBn, led by ASI Ahok Chakma, went to the spot.

The Rohingya men opened fire at the law enforcers triggering them to fire back in retaliation.

The gunfight left two Rohingya men dead on the spot. One of them was identified as Salim Ullah, 33, son of one Nur Prakash Yunus of Camp-8 East B block.

Parts of an LG, four rounds of cartridges, a knife, a magazine with 11 rounds of bullet and four cartridges of shotgun were recovered from the spot.

Besides, around 73 rounds of bullets were recovered from the spot
