Ukhiya OC, 3 others sued for torturing woman

However, the woman was constantly trying to force a constable to marry her at the station, claimed another OC of the police station

Four policemen, including an officer-in-charge of Ukhiya police station, have been sued on charges of torturing a woman in Chittagong.

A case was registered with a Cox’s Bazar court under the Women and Child Repression and Prevention Act (WCRPA) on Tuesday.

Later, the court took the matter into account and directed the superintendent of the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to investigate the matter, confirmed Advocate Ekramul Huda, the public prosecutor of the tribunal.

According to the case statement, the woman claimed a certain Sumon, a former constable of the police station, raped her in his chamber in Khuniapalong Checkpost on July 7.

After the incident, she complained to the additional superintendent of police of Ukhiya circle the same night and he advised her to file a complaint with the police station.

However, when she reached the station, OC Morjina allegedly confined her in a room and brutally tortured her in company with other policemen.

OC Morjina was found unreachable on the phone despite repeated phone calls.

A former officer-in-charge (Investigation) of the police station, Nurul Islam, claimed the allegations to be untrue and said: “We promptly prepared an investigative report and sent it to the superintendent of police.”
