Survivor describes St Martin trawler capsize

At least 15 Rohingya people have died as a trawler capsized in the Bay of Bengal near St Martin’s Island while trying to go to Malaysia illegally early Tuesday.
Teknaf Model police station OC Pradip Kumar Das said that almost 65 others have been rescued alive so far. At least 85 Rohingya people were in the trawler.

A survivor of today’s trawler capsize told they started for Malaysia on two trawlers from Teknaf’s Monakhali area at 8:00 pm on Monday. As soon as they reached near Chera Dwip, suddenly the engine of one of the trawlers went out of order. After a few hours, the trawler capsized in the Bay of Bengal, leaving many of them dead. However, many others swam to shore.

St Martin’s coast guard commander lieutenant Naimul Haque said the death toll may rise further. Five others are still missing.
