The deceased – Md Rashidullah (27) — was a resident of Leda Rohingya camp and a member of a robber gang, locally known as “Khalek Group”.

Two Rab members were injured during the gunfight that took place between the members of Rab-15 and robbers in the hilly area of Domdomia Jahajghat under Hnila union, our Cox’s Bazar correspondent reports.

Operation Commander of Rab-15, CPC Assistant Superintendent of Police Bimol Chandra Karmakar, said on information that a gang of robbers gathered in the hilly area, a team of Rab conducted a drive there.

Sensing presence of the elite force members, robbers opened fire at them, forcing them to shoot back in self-defence, triggering the “gunfight”, the Rab official said.

After the gunfight, the Rab members found Rashidullah with bullet wounds while other members of the group managed to flee the scene, he said.

They rushed the injured to the local health complex where duty-doctors declared him dead, the operation commander said.
