Two drug traffickers, including a Rohingya man, were killed in a gunfight with members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) at Moulvibazar village under Hnila UP in Teknaf Upazila of Cox’s Bazar on early Monday.
The deceased were identified as MD Delwar Hossain Dilu, son of Jalil Ahmed of Satghriya Para under Nayabazar UP of Hwaikyang and Md Nurul Islam, son of Haider Sharif of Kutupalong Rohingya camp.
Being tipped off that a yaba consignment was being brought into the country through no-2 Sluice Gate of Moulvibazar village of Hnila, a BGB team raided the area, said BGB Teknaf-2 Battalion Commander Lt Col Md Faisal Hassan Khan.
Sensing presence of the BGB members, the drug traders opened fire on them, prompting them to fire back, triggering the gunfight.
After the skirmish, the law enforcers recovered two injured men and took them to Teknaf Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared them dead.
Their bodies were kept at Cox’s Bazar Sadar hospital morgue. Four BGB members were also injured in the incident.
The BGB members also recovered 20,000 contraband yaba tablets, two domestic guns, four rounds cartridges and two sharp weapons from the spot after the skirmish
