Prime suspect in rape and murder case killed in Cox’s Bazar ‘gunfight

After raping her in turns on the three-wheeler they threw her in front of a running vehicle on the highway that killed her on spot, sources say


The prime suspect of an infamous rape and murder case has been killed in a gunfight with police in Chakaria upazila, Cox’s Bazar.

The incident took place in Morongghona area of Chakaria upazila around 3am, early morning Tuesday.

The deceased, Sazzad Hossain, 30, was the main accused of the infamous Champa rape and murder case.

Police and RAB were collaboratively working on the complex case and made numerous drives to arrest Sazzad which remained unsuccessful. Eventually, officials of Pekua police station were able to arrest Sazzad on Monday morning around 10am from Shekher Killa area of the district.

“Based on his information, police made a drive to the spot to recover Sazzad’s illegally stored firearms and ammunition. Sensing their presence, Sazzad’s associates opened fired at police and when the police retaliated, the miscreants fled the spot,” said OC Habibur Rahman of Chakaria police station.

“After the gunfight, we found the wounded dead-body of Sazzad,” said the OC.

On May 6, the deceased, Champa took a shared ride on a three-wheeler, and Sazzad and his associate reportedly abducted the woman. After raping her in turns on the three-wheeler, they threw her in front of a running vehicle on the highway that killed her on the spot, sources say.

Police recovered her dead body from Chakaria and the deceased’s father filed a case accusing four the next day.
