Journalists permitted to use motorbikes on election day

This decision comes a day after the Editors’ Council wrote to the commission to reinstate the transport mode

The Election Commission has permitted the use of motorcycles on election day, Sunday, provided that they display the commission’s approval sticker.

Asadul Haq, deputy director (public relations) of the commission, on Thursday, said that the previous ban regarding motorcycles has been revoked.
The move comes a day after the Editors’ Council wrote to the commission to ensure the mobility of journalists for election observing and media coverage.

The Election Commission had earlier announced that it will not issue press stickers for journalists’ motorcycles, for the upcoming polls, and would only provide stickers to other modes of transport such as sedans and micro buses, for them to cover the election.
