6 killed in Cox’s Bazar road accident

At least six people have been killed and two others injured in a head-on collision between a covered van and a human haulier, locally known as laguna in Cox’s Bazar.

The incident took place on Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar Highway at Harbang area in Chakaria upazila on Wednesday evening, said Habibur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Chakaria police station.

Of the deceased, four have been identified so far as Badiul Alom,50 and Firoz Ahemd, 32 of Harbang area in Chakaria upazila, Al Amin, 48, of Lama upazila in Bandarban, and Minar Uddin, 23 of Lohagora upazila in Chittagong.

Habibur Rahman said: “A Chittagong bound covered van collided head-on with a laguna on Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar Highway injuring 9 passengers of the laguna.”


The injured were taken to Chakaria Upazila Health Complex where seven of them died, and two other injured were shifted to Chittagong Medical College (CMCH) for advanced treatment, added the OC.
